This is the Anderton Boat Lift. The original lift was built in
1875 to provide a link between the Trent & Mersey canal and the
River Weaver at Anderton, near Northwich in Cheshire (UK).
There was a rebuild (completed in 1908) on top of the original
structure - a huge engineering undertaking. The lift closed
in 1982 because of structural problems.
The Anderton Boat Lift Trust have raised funds to begin the
restoration project which, it is hoped, will see the lift returned
to working order in 2002. They need all the help they can get
